Eastside Harvest House

Architect: VELOCIPEDE architects

Location: Kirkland, WA

Sustainability: Built Green 5-Star, LEED Platinum

What an amazing opportunity it was for us to lead the construction team for the Eastside Harvest House. Sitting on a Kirkland hillside overlooking Lake Washington, this multigenerational home is truly one of a kind.

MRM worked closely and collaboratively with the visionary architect, Velocipede (click link for technical data), and a variety of talented partners and sub consultants to achieve the homeowners’ goals of “off the grid” capacity and net-zero energy. The team selected and implemented leading-edge sustainability systems – King County’s first residential potable rainwater harvesting system, a 90-panel solar array, responsible deconstruction, and building techniques and greener products and finishes.

The acre site also boasts a holistic permaculture design that includes an edible landscape from fruit trees, berry bushes and raised vegetables gardens. For more details, click here.

The open floor plan includes a light-bathed great room, a modest master bedroom and bath, a private guest bedroom and bath, highly functional his-and-hers offices, and an exercise room.

The yearlong construction project wrapped up in May 2012 and has achieved both Built Green 5 Star and USGBC’s LEED for Homes Platinum certification, receiving the second highest points total in the nation!
