Capitol Hill Colonial Inside & Out

Kitchen Design: Model Remodel
Deck & Patio Design: rom architecture studio
Location: Capitol Hill, Seattle, WA
Scope: KitchenBasement, Patio, Deck

This kitchen remodel demonstrates Model Remodel’s skill in achieving a complete renovation that blends seamlessly with the existing home. When the owners of this 1940s space decided to remodel, it was important to them that Model Remodel preserve the home’s heritage. So, the Crew installed a marble countertop, parquet floors and new cabinets, all with a classic look and feel.

However, the remodel increased functionality and modernized the older space, as well. Since the couple enjoys cooking and entertaining, they wanted kitchen features that were close to restaurant-grade. The new kitchen features a Sub-Zero refrigerator, a Wolf range, and a double-basin sink with a pull-down nozzle. Despite the appliances’ utilitarian value, they blend beautifully into the rest of the kitchen and don’t stand out as garish or overly modern. The Crew also installed an island, for increased counter space and storage.

Several years after the kitchen remodel (and subsequent remodels of the bathroom and master bedroom), the homeowner again contacted Model Remodel to work on the patio and basement. With the guidance of rom architecture studio, the Crew turned the yard into the perfect place to spend a summer night. They leveled the backyard, installed patio stones, built the structure for the barbeque, installed the beautiful railing, and crane-lifted the fountain into the backyard. In the basement, the team updated the espresso bar, built cabinets to match the existing ones, created a niche for the homeowner’s keyboard, and moved a bathroom door to accommodate the new space.

Model Remodel is especially proud of this project, as the repeat-clients have called upon the company over the course of six years. Some of the many upgrades have included increased insulation in all the affected areas of the house, LED light fixtures, wood window upgrades, and low-flow plumbing. The home gets more beautiful as the years go on, and Model Remodel is proud to call the homeowners friends.
