Custom Shelving & Storage Makeover

Scope: Music and Living Room Built-Ins

Sustainability: low-VOC paint, 80-90% recycle rate, reclaimed wood shelves and countertop

Sometimes a brand new home can be the perfect fit for your family, with a few minor updates to make it your own! This Seattle family moved into a beautiful, modern home and was looking to give some of the rooms on their main floor added personality and functionality. They dreamed of having shelves and cabinets for display and storage space, which the new home lacked. They enlisted the help of Model Remodel to customize a music room and living room, and are now loving the warmth built-ins have brought to their home.

The music room features a grand piano, and now a nook for listeners to admire from. The custom shelving houses their large library collection, and built-in lighting allows for easy reading on the eyes. Under-seat drawers provide additional storage.

In the living room we added Abodian, Burnished Indigo, standing cabinets to contrast the mostly white room. We topped the cabinets with custom countertops and open shelving from our friends at Urban Reclamations. The reclaimed beam stock has notable markings, highlighted by the top coat, that gives the space an edge with a hint of sustainability! In the right cabinet we installed a TV lift to keep the TV out of sight when not in use. The remote-controlled lift keeps the TV hidden, allowing the gorgeous stone fireplace to shine, unobstructed by electronics.
