A Remodel Can Feel Like a Brand New Home

To bring their home into the modern day, these homeowners needed two things: a fresh kitchen update and a new bathroom to replace the unfinished one just off the living room. Alongside these major upgrades, Model Remodel also added a small bump-out addition to expand the entryway, built a custom coffee nook off the kitchen, and updated the hardwoods, carpet, windows, and paint. There are tons of details that show just how much thought and effort went into this design and remodel; from custom quartz features to pocket doors and more. The resulting kitchen and bathroom feel more in-tune with the home, giving this family the perfect home to make memories in for many years to come.

As soon as you enter this home, you’ll notice the MRM touch. A bump-out addition makes room for a small nook under an archway – the same archway seen throughout the home, but more on that later. An added window brings a surprising amount of natural light to the entrance of the home, and a bench with extra storage is a much-needed place to take shoes on and off. This whole area of the main floor received fresh hardwood flooring made from the most stunning un-stained white oak.

Past the dining room and around the corner you’ll see the coffee nook first, then the kitchen right after. Taking down a wall to unite these spaces was an incredibly rewarding decision; the space feels bigger and brighter, with a much more appealing flow. A few extra windows also help a lot, especially the beautiful corner window above the coffee nook. The nook itself is a gorgeous work of craftsmanship: a custom-built walnut bench with built in side table. The walnut matches accents elsewhere in the kitchen, and the nook provides the perfect place to sip coffee or relax and converse while taking a break from meal-prep.

A Complete Kitchen Overhaul

This incredible kitchen was a complete overhaul, a dramatic departure from the previous 70s style. We gutted the space down to the studs, creating a blank canvas for the homeowners’ dream kitchen. It all begins with the painted white cabinets and custom quartz countertops, featuring a striking mitered edge. This brilliant white base sets the stage for the stunning cerulean tile and stainless steel appliances. Extending the backsplash from floor-to-ceiling created a beautiful all encompassing effect. The built-in larder (hidden pantry) with its ample storage space, is a practical and stylish solution for appliances and pantry items to be easily accessible, yet hidden away when not in use. We even incorporated a custom quartz shelf above the stovetop and a quartz window casing, adding unique elements that complement the overall aesthetic.

BEFORE & AFTER

Another practical improvement in this kitchen is the expanded space. By moving the fridge wall back almost two feet, we were able to create a more open and airy environment. Removing the separating wall between the kitchen and dining room made the space feel even bigger. Adding even more windows was the cherry on top to turn this home’s old, dark kitchen into a brand new space that the family will love to spend time in.

A Bathroom Built for Utility

The bathroom transformation was equally impressive for such a small space. What was once an unfinished utility room, filled with brick and concrete, is now a sleek and modern space that complements the rest of the home. We added a shower with a privacy curtain, making this bathroom even more useful. For pet owners, we included a small dog den with a retractable fence, ensuring a safe and comfortable space for furry friends. Built-in cabinetry and laundry facilities complete this functional and stylish bathroom. The gray subway tile throughout the bathroom gives it a minimalist feel while brightening up the space. Built-ins are plentiful, with a shower shelf, cabinets above the loo, and shelves in the puppy nook as well.

Design-Build Helps Your Dream Home Come to Life

It’s amazing how these kitchen and bathroom renovations completely transformed this home, creating a modern and stylish living space and uniting the main floor with a cohesive style. Thanks to Model Remodel’s design-build process, the homeowners were able to work with our in-house design team to customize every detail of this build. From the custom puppy nook to the matching archways, it’s these meaningful extra details that make a family fall in love with their new home. The result is a home that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing, a space that the homeowners can truly enjoy for years to come.
